Mimecast Outlook Client 6.1.1396.14780 Released

mimecast

Mimecast have now released version 6.1.1396.14780 of their Outlook Client.

This version of the MSO client now provides the following:

New features

  • Single Sign On authentication.
  • New intuitive Quick Search experience.
  • Mimecast Quick Search bar now available under the Outlook search bar in Outlook 2013 onwards.

Enhancements

  • Significant performance improvements to the Continuity workflow.
  • Changes to data storgae locations.
    • %appdata% > Message and attachments cache.
    • %programdata% > Local database file and logs.
  • Applied Application Settings are now reflected in the logs.
  • Improvements to navigation using the Tab key.
  • Improvements to right-click behavior with attachments.
  • BCC addresses added by Worksite/iManage Work will now be ignored.

To push this out using SCCM or Group Policy, we recommend using the MSI command below:

msiexec.exe /i “MSOInstall.msi” /passive /norestart

What this will do is to firstly run the installer, then the /passive will show a basic user interface without user interaction, but will stop and show the error if, for example, Outlook is still open. The /norestart is fairly simple – this will ensure that your client machine does not automatically restart itself.

Mimecast Outlook Client 5.4.1263.13520 Released

mimecast

Mimecast Outlook Client 5.4.1263.13520 Released 3Mimecast have now released version 5.4.1263.13520 of their Outlook Client.

This version of the MSO client now supports the following:

  • Support for the new Australian grid
  • Fixes from previous releases
  • Fixed an issue when replying to a message where the address was formatted as “”Smith, Sarah’ (ssmith@domain.com)'”.
  • Fixed an issue where Archive Folders other than those of the primary mailbox were displayed.
We have tested this version with Outlook being open during the install and although we do not recommend doing this, it does seem to work so long as you restart Outlook at some point to enable the new version to load.

To push this out using SCCM or Group Policy, we recommend using the MSI command below:

msiexec.exe /i “MSOInstall.msi” /qb /norestart

What this will do is to firstly run the installer, then the /qb will show a basic user interface without user interaction, but will stop and show the error if, for example, Outlook is still open. The /norestart is fairly simple – this will ensure that your client machine does not automatically restart itself.

Mimecast Outlook Client 5.3.1139.13090 Released

mimecast

Mimecast Outlook Client 5.3.1139.13090 Released 5Mimecast have now released version 5.3.1139.13090 of their Outlook Client.

This version of the MSO client now supports the following:

  • Archive Search optimizations when dealing with large archives
  • SMIME support for Citrix environments
  • Improvements to Managed Senders workflow
  • Minor UI updates

We have tested this version with Outlook being open during the install and although we do not recommend doing this, it does seem to work so long as you restart Outlook at some point to enable the new version to load.

To push this out using SCCM or Group Policy, we recommend using the MSI command below:

What this will do is to firstly run the installer, then the /qb will show a basic user interface without user interaction, but will stop and show the error if, for example, Outlook is still open. Mimecast Outlook Client Version 5.3.1122.13000 Released

mimecast

Mimecast Outlook Client Version 5.3.1122.13000 Released 6Mimecast have now released version 5.3.1122.13000 of their Outlook Client.

This version of the MSO client now supports the following:

  • Large File Sent
  • Large File Receive
  • Microsoft Outlook 2013
  • Other Microsoft Office 2013 Products (like Project and Visio 2013 no longer conflict with it)
  • Windows 8.1/8/7
  • Mimecast Client Exchange Folder Replication
  • Active Directory Integration

There seems to be a slight redesign of the Mimecast tab making it smaller in Outlook but nothing too substantial and as always, some of the new features will only be available to you if you have them as part of your subscription package with Mimecast.

The single most frustrating thing with the new release though is that you have to uninstall version 3 or 4 before you can install version 5. Well if you have 5000+ installations like some of our customers, that is an almost impossible job – especially more so that you have to have Outlook closed to do this entire process. This latest installer will upgrade version 5 clients though.

We have been working on ways of making this easier and the best way we can find so far is that if you are using SCCM, you can use the supersedence method to uninstall the version 3 or 4 of the client and then install this latest client. For the Outlook issue, if you use the correct MSI switches, if Outlook is open it will tell the user to close it to be able to continue the installation. The recommended MSI command you should use in SCCM is this:

msiexec.exe /i “MSOInstall.msi” /qb /norestart

What this will do is to firstly run the installer, then the /qb will show a basic user interface without user interaction, but will stop and show the error if, for example, Outlook is still open. The /norestart is fairly simple – this will ensure that your client machine does not automatically restart itself.

Fix Office 2010 and Office 2013 Products Compatibility & Mimecast Default Exchange Account Error

mimecast

If you are trying to use Office 2010 and Office 2013 products like Visio or Project and you have Mimecast for Outlook Client, you may find that you get an error like:

“Default account is not an exchange account”

The process below should fix this for you.

Under the following registry key you’ll find a 9.4 key referring to Office 2010 and a 9.5 key referring to Office (inc. Project and Visio) 2013. Please note that this is based on a x64 machine, same applies for x86 but using x86 variables.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeTypeLib{00062FFF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

  1.  Close all Office products
  2.  Find the registry key as above
  3.  Delete the entire 9.5 key found at this registry location
  4.  Restart machine

This should fix the Mimecast error of “Default account is not an exchange account”.

Mimecast MSO Fix – SMTP in the Credentials Error

mimecast

If you are a Mimecast user and are also using Windows 8.1, you may find that when you have installed the Mimecast client for Outlook (MSO) and try to enter your domain or cloud credentials, the username has SMTP set and cannot be changed and the password part is greyed out. You will then receive the usual error message at the bottom right:

Mimecast MSO Fix - SMTP in the Credentials Error 8

There is a very simple reason for this – Mimecast do not currently support Windows 8.1!

However, there is a fix that you can try, we have test it on Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 with Office 2013 x64 and it seems to work – we have not tested it on any other setups so you try this purely at your own risk!

Instructions

You need to delete a single registry key on the affected machine. The registry key that you should delete this this one:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\D8D51FC95CB504D45AB209F36D065B9F

Once you have deleted this registry key, reboot your machine, start up Outlook and see if it has made a difference.

We have also designed a MSI for this fix to distribute to larger amount of machines using ConfigMgr, WDS or Group Policy. You can download this MSI from the link below.

Download

Download Mimecast MSO Fix

If you get an error stating that the install has failed like the one below – then the machine you are running the MSI on does not have the stated registry key on it.

Mimecast MSO Fix - SMTP in the Credentials Error 9

As I’ve stated above, this is not tested on various operating systems and Office versions so you try this at your own risk – however, if you try it and it works, we would like to hear from you as to what setup you have so that we can build up a list of setups that this works with.
