I am just coming up to the renewal for my Sophos Antivirus subscription that I have had for a number of years, which I have shared across a number of devices within my household.
However, the price has doubled since I last took out the subscription so I have been looking for something different.
I have tried a number of the so-called free antivirus programs that are out there, but they do not give you the full level of protection and a lot of the time you have to pay for the extra modules anyway.
Someone at work recommended Bitdefender which I have used in a corporate environment in the past. From what I can remember, it was pretty good in the business sector so thought I’d give it a go.
The costs for it were quite surprising as well. I need to cover three machines at home, my own computer, my wives and my son’s laptop. Bitdefender offers a three device subscription for just £19.99.
Not only that, but you also get a 30-day trial to test it out on all three devices to make sure it is the correct fit for you. Perfect, so I thought I would get it installed and give it a go for 30 days.
One of my favourite parts of the software has to be the online portal. I’m not so bothered about myself or my wife, but it does allow me to keep an eye on my sons activity and to ensure that he is not bring a virus into the home network!
The software itself that is installed on your device also has a lot of different options within it. The dashboard gives a nice quick link way of navigating through the different modules available to you:
I was surprised by how much my £19.99 a year gets me. There are a number of modules with Bitdefender Antivirus 2020 which does not just include Antivirus. These are just a few of the modules that are included:
- 200mb per day VPN connection
- Real-time protection
- Phishing protection
- Wi-Fi security advisor
- Social Network protection
- File Shredder
- Password Manager
Just to go a little further into some of these modules, the following were my particular favourites.
Social Network Protection
With having my son on the social network platforms, it is important to me that he, and my home network, are protected from some of the junk and viruses that are shared about the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Tik-Tok.
The social network protection module of Bitdefender takes care of all those worries for me.
The password manager is another excellent module that makes life so much easier. No longer do I need to rack my brains trying to figure out what password is for which website. Bitdefenders Password Manager takes care of all of that for me.
It just saves sites, usernames and passwords for you and next time you visit a site with a reuired login, if it is in the password manager, it will automatically call up your login details for you!.
Bitdefender also back up their software with awards to show that they are probably the best antivirus provider available. These awards include Best Protection and Best Performance:
The system requirements for Bitdefender Antivirus are fairly basic and should cover almost all machines these days:
Operating System: Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10
CPU: Intel CORE 2 Duo (2 GHz) or equivalent processor
Memory (RAM): 2 GB
Available free hard disk space: 2.5 GB free space
How to Purchase Bitdefender
30 Day Free Trial
I would strongly suggest that you take advantage of the 30-day trial first and give it a good test – you will not be let down and will almost certainly decide to purchase, especially given the low price of it.
You can head over to the product site and then just click on the Download free 30-trial link:
Download the software and go through the usual wizard type setup and you are setup for fully functional use for 30-days.
Once you have decided to purchase Bitdefender Antivirus 2020, you have the option of how many devices you want to protect and for how many years.
You have the options of 1 year, 2 years or 3 years whilst covering the range of devices between 1-10. The product page comes with a nice, easy to use calculation tool for you to use to get the price of your required subscription:
After trying out a number of the free antivirus packages and also some of the premium options out there, I would say the Bitdefender Antivirus 2020 is the best antivirus for PC and best all-rounder and the one that I have purchased for the next 12 months.
