Online games like 918kiss are entertaining. Some of them are also lucrative for players. They come with side effects if not controlled, however.
Excessive online gaming can easily lead to addiction. Online game addiction, also known as Internet gaming disorder, generally refers to the problematic, compulsive use of online games that leads to significant impairment of a person’s ability to function in diverse life domains over a long period.
Online game addiction can have the same psychological effects as a drug. In fact, it has all the telltale signs of drug addiction, such as emotional attachment and withdrawal symptoms.
Fortunately, there are several ways to overcome online gaming addiction. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Accept That You’re Addicted
The first step to stopping an addiction is to accept that you have it. There are several ways of objectively checking whether you have online game addiction.
One of the simplest ways is taking online tests and questionnaires, so consider taking one. If your results turn out positive, accept that you have a problem that needs a solution, and start working on remedying it.
Set Time Limits for Online Gaming
If you are struggling with excessive online gaming, consider setting specific limits for yourself on how long you should play each day. You may restrict yourself to no more than 30 minutes of play each day, for example.
Set a timer on your phone or other devices to ensure you keep track of your playing time. At times, you’ll get carried away and end up exceeding your playing time. Just know that it’s completely normal to experience such setbacks, and that shouldn’t be a reason to give up.
Write Yourself a Contract
Find a piece of paper and write an agreement to yourself that you won’t play your favorite online game for a specific period, say one week.
Sign the agreement and date it. You now have a contract with yourself. Many people will find it too hard to go against their own words. If you do, there will typically be a crippling sense of failure that will motivate you never to repeat the mistake.
Find Activities to Distract Yourself
You will be less likely to get carried away with online gaming if you have other tasks to keep you busy. Find other activities you can enjoy doing instead of spending most of your time on online games.
You can spend your time:
- With your family or friends
- Going for walks or playing outdoor games
- Working on a creative project
Install Game-blocking Apps
If you often play online games on your smartphone or your PC, consider installing apps that limit your playtime. Some apps can block you from accessing specific games, whereas others will deny you access to your device entirely during a set time.
Keep in mind that you can’t overcome addiction overnight. Take it one day at a time. You’ll have a hard time in the first few days, but things will get easier with time.
