We recently had a situation where we needed to upgrade our SQL server that had the System Center Service Manager (SCSM) databases on it.
This meant that we would need to migrate the databases from the old server to the new server. We thought that this would be a fairly straight forward task and it is, although we had to take a large number of steps to get it completed correctly.
Having been searching on the internet for a step by step guide to do this, we came across a perfect guide from Microsoft. Usually Microsoft guides are all best practices and not many businesses are ever perfectly in line with these suggested best practices but this guide is what we used and we were up and running again within a few hours.
So, below is that guide that we used and we would highly recommend you take a look if you are looking at migrating your SCSM database.
