SCSM – How to generate a strong name signature key file to seal a Management Pack

ssc 0

If you are using System Center Service Manager and creating custom management packs then you will want to seal them with a strong name signature. To do this, you will need to first of all generate the key file to allow you to use it when sealing your management pack.

You need to use the sn.exe tool which has to be run from the MicrosoftSDKs installation folder, the file location may slightly change depending what version you are using:

C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftSDKsWindowsv6.0Abin

You then need to run the following command:

sn.exe -k C:tempfilename.snk

where:

  • C:temp = directory location
  • filename.snk = filename of your key file

Now you have generated a strong name signature you can use it to seal your management pack.

comments Comments Platform Removal

disqus 1

We have received an email from comments advising us about changes that they are making to their platform. One of these changes is that they are introducing a new “Pro” service which will continue to be ad-free. However, if we wish to continue to use the free version then we would have to use their advertising platform as well.

We have been questioning our use of comments for a while now as we get well over 6500 visits a day but hardly any comments, so with this email we have taken the decision to remove the use of comments from our site. We have tonight completed the export of all comments from comments and imported them into our standard WordPress platform so all existing comments have been retained. We have added spam filtering software and also the ability to use either your WordPress, Twitter, Facebook or Google+ accounts to leave comments on all of our posts and pages on this site.

Hopefully this will provide a better method of allowing our visitors to leave comments on any of our content and will keep ads to a minimum. Obviously we cannot completely eradicate ads on our site as the costs to host and run this site are huge due to the massive amount of bandwidth and space usage we require. But, we only use Google Adsense on this site which should only ever provide relevant ads and no annoying ad pop-ups etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this update and feel free to leave a comment below using our new comments platform!

Right click on the Start Button and then select “Command Prompt”:

When the Comand Prompt appears, you should then enter the following and press enter:

wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

Exchange 2007 – Create Multiple Mailboxes using Powershell

Exchange 2013 1

We were recently setting up a test lab with an old version of Exchange 2007 to replicate a customers environment and we had created the required 250 users in Active Directory using some scripts but we also had to then create the mailboxes for these accounts.

Not wanting to sit there manually creating all these mailboxes, we used a quick Powershell command that had it done in 30 seconds.

All you need to do is to run the following command in your Exchange Management Shell:

Get-User -OrganizationalUnit “LAB/Users” | Where-Object{$_.RecipientType -eq “User”} | Enable-Mailbox -Database “LABMBX\MBX1”

where:

  • “LAB/Users” – The OU you want to enable the mailboxes on
  • “LABMBX\MBX1” – your Exchange database where you want to create the mailboxes on

You can also add further parts to your command to scale down the search for users based on Company or Department etc. To this, just add it to the “Where-Object” part – so an example:

Get-User -OrganizationalUnit “LAB/Users” | Where-Object{$_.RecipientType -eq “User” -and $_.department –eq “Sales” -and $_.company -eq “Lab Company”} | Enable-Mailbox -Database “LABMBX\MBX1”

Just change the Sales and Lab Company to whatever you require.

Once you have run this command you should check in your Exchange Management Console and you should then see all the mailboxes that have been created for you.

Hosting Issues – Now Resolved

TGH Word Cloud

As you may have noticed yesterday we have had a number of issues with our hosting company nuking our hosting for seemingly no reason!

This took out all our websites for about 7 hours yesterday and in the end we had to fix the problem that they created ourselves. As a result we will be moving hosting company shortly as their response and support was shocking.

Anyway – everything is back up and running now but if you do notice any problems please use our Contact page or leave us a message below to let us know.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those that sent us abusive emails and messages telling us that our website “was crap” and “nothing works” etc, etc – this really helped, I sometimes wonder why we bother at all!
