Shoretel IP930D DECT Wireless Handset 1It seems that we have been out of the loop a little on some new technology that came onto the VoIP market last year and it is something that we have been looking forward to for a while.

Shoretel is a great VoIP system but on of the draw backs had always been the lack of a good wireless handset. You could easily setup a cheap £5 “normal” phone that you had bought from your local electrical shop and add as an analogue device – but it lacked the Shoretel features making it an annoying thing to use.
So, we were greatly surprised to see that last May, Shoretel released the Shoretel IP 930D DECT phone. Having looked at it in depth today, it looks really good. It has all the features you’d expect from a standard Shoretel phone including:

  • Transfer
  • Conference
  • Redial
  • History
  • Hold
It also has a 3-line function, headset jack and apparently can last up to 12 hours talk time and 5 days talk time. You can also purchase range extenders and docks for this handset – it looks like Shoretel have really struck gold on this one.
Some other features of this device are:
  • 176 x 220 pixels backlit screen
  • Speakerphone
  • Mute
  • Volume Control
  • Base supports 10/100 Ethernet
Ok, so we have been nice to Shoretel so far – now the downside, you have to upgrade to Shoretel version 14 for this to work. In most businesses this should be fine but for larger businesses this can be a real pain. Our experience of upgrades in the past have been many failed older handsets (usually IP115s or IP230s) and screwed up firmware – not to mention problems with VPN phones. But if you plan well – you should not run in to any upgrade issues.

We are not sure on a price for this device yet, but pricing is made very difficult due to the way Shoretel sell items – basically it depends on what your reseller wants to charge, but when we get a few prices back we will average them up and post the details here soon.
If you have had any first hand experience of this device we would love to hear from you – just leave a comment below and if you wish to write a review for us, just email us by clicking the Help button on the menu bar above.
